The professional translation and localization industry has made great strides over the past decade. Machine translation technologies have appeared and are improving every day. For large and frequently updated projects, continuous localization is set up based on cloud translation management platforms.
There are many misconceptions about the translation industry. Technologies whose pros and cons can be explained in detail by any specialist working in the industry are far from being familiar to business owners and webmasters who are faced with the need to localize a website into a foreign language for the first time. In this article we will try to dispel some of the myths about localization, to help the participants of the process understand each other better.
1. Localization and translation are the same thing
Text translation is the basis of localization projects, but the concepts are still different. Providers of website localization services don’t just change the language: they also ensure functional and cultural compliance for a specific region. Functional content includes time and date formats, currency, weight units, and distance measurements. When we speak about cultural aspects we mean colors, local jokes, etiquette, symbols, rituals, myths, beliefs, and much more.
If your goal is to be authentic in your target market, then localization is your best option.
2. Google translate helps you save money on localization
Google translate is a great tool for what it does, but website localization is not one of the things it is most useful for. Context is very important for a professional translation. A trivial example: “refrain” usually means “withhold”, but in the sphere of music it is more likely to mean a phrase that repeats several times. These are two completely different things – a human translator will understand, but Google translate may choose the wrong option.
Realizing the disadvantages of machine translation, some localization companies offer their clients a machine translation service with proofreading by a translator-editor to reduce the cost. However, the translators themselves shudder nervously about such projects, and try to refuse them, explaining that the quality of the translated text can be so low they will have to be translated again from scratch (to the translator’s detriment, because they are still paid not for the translation, but for the proofreading – which is cheaper). Therefore, when you agree to a machine translation with proofreading, you need to understand that it is unlikely a top specialist will be working on your project.
3. Professional translation = professional translators
A modern translation agency or localization company has not only a pool of professional translators, but also specialized localization platforms, translation memory, glossaries, and other translation technologies. These save time spent on translation, improve the quality of the translated text, and help ensure consistency across the entire project.
These solutions are also useful for clients: translation memory helps to save money on repeated words and expressions (which can be quite a significant sum, usually up to 20-30% of the total project cost).
4. Large language providers have higher translation quality
This misconception may have arisen from the abundance of advertising provided by translation agencies and localization companies. The translation and localization market is highly competitive. Of course, there are bona fide companies that provide high-quality translations, but there are others who reduce costs by hiring inexperienced and less professional specialists. The main problem in working with bureaus and agencies is that it is impossible to communicate directly with the linguists who are working on your project.
You can communicate directly with freelance translators, however. There are also nuances in working with them: first of all, there are quality control issues and, if the project is large and several people are working on it, you may face issues with complexity and management.
5. The more professional translators are, the faster they work
All people are different and their speed of work is different, and translators are people as well. The better the translator, the more dear their good name and reputation are to them, which means they are more responsible in their work. In addition, there are complex projects that require more attention and immersion in the context.
The norm for professionals is 2000-3000 words (10-12 thousand characters) per day.
6. The more translators, the better the quality
Actually, it is quite the opposite: the fewer translators work on a project, the better the quality. When there are many specialists, the number of errors and inconsistencies in style and terminology grows. The approach that works best is to have one or two translators working directly with an editor.
Website localization opens up new horizons for a business, almost literally. If you treat it responsibly and convey your message to the target audience authentically and convincingly, then you will significantly increase your likelihood of success in a new market.
Why Is It Important for a Sportsbook to Have a Betting App?
In recent years, the sports betting business has encountered a number of legal obstacles. As of January 20, 2021, sports betting is still banned in a number of states and jurisdictions throughout the United States. As a bonus, the sports betting sector continues to expand and emerge through mobile application development despite several hurdles and cautions in the past.
The worldwide gambling industry’s fastest-growing segment is sports betting. A CAGR of 6.9 percent predicts that by 2023, it would have a significant portion of the $92.9 billion global markets. A worldwide coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic seems to be restricting the need for gambling, but sports betting continues to expand since new and easy online sports betting applications programs are being created.
Finally, there are various top sporting gambling applications on the market, thanks to the legalization of mobile betting apps.
Mobile phones were formerly seen as a luxury. However, this is not the case any longer. Because of the high demand, smartphone manufacturers are releasing new models on a near-monthly basis in order to keep up with the ever-changing demands of the public. There are cell phones available for any budget nowadays, and they provide easy access to the internet, vital information, and a large range of apps. Today, smartphones are utilized for a wide range of purposes, including entertainment, banking, trade, and more.
People are also benefiting from the introduction of 5G or fifth-generation technology, which provides them with quicker download speeds, greater connection, and speedier banking, as well as a better overall experience. Increasing numbers of firms are making investments in order to take advantage of this trend and offer consumers better apps.
The transformation that has occurred in the last several years has been a key driver in the industry’s development. People used to gamble for pleasure in conventional poker rooms, casinos, gaming parlors, bookmakers, and bookies. Those days are long gone, but the betting culture endures. Calls were also used to make a number of wagers. However, things have changed.
There are still land-based casinos and sportsbooks, they haven’t vanished. Gambling sites like Las Vegas, Atlanta, and Georgia, remain popular tourist attractions. There are millions of individuals that go to these places to enjoy the opulent casinos. However, it’s also a certainty that revenues at a number of brick-and-mortar casinos have fallen down. Mobile sports betting applications are a major contributor to this, especially now when bettors can find a dozen of apps to choose from in order to gamble comfortably in their homes or while traveling, unlike the land-based casinos where betting is only permitted inside the premises. As more nations and provinces legalize online sports betting, land-based betting outlets are likely to dwindle further in the coming years.
Land-based gambling is outlawed in a number of nations. Despite this, there is a catch. There are a few of them that allow customers to make bets through offshore online sports betting platforms and mobile betting applications. This sector has grown as a result of the proliferation of electronic devices, including laptops, desktop computers, tablets, and mobile phones. It has also been legalized in numerous nations and provinces recently.
Several systems are available to help sportsbooks run their businesses and produce revenues, while also providing an exceptional betting experience for their customers. In the eyes of many bettors, gambling is still an enjoyable pastime, and for others, it’s a significant source of revenue.
If you wish to utilize a mobile betting app, you must have Android or iOS installed on your smartphone. You won’t be able to use any applications on other mobile operating systems, even if they’re getting more popular. Apple’s iOS is supported by certain casinos and bookies whereas Android is supported by most platforms. The following are some advantages of utilizing this OS’s mobile app.
Convenience – Convenience is a big factor in why so many people wager on sports using their cellphones. There are a few components needed to run a mobile phone, it is lightweight, can be taken anywhere, and is widely accessible. Users will be able to make wagers on the fly, which enhances the whole betting experience.
User Experience – The responsiveness of all sports betting systems is undeniable. A wide range of devices are supported by every sports betting site. While responsive websites accomplish the work, the intended result or user experience isn’t provided by them. With the advent of mobile betting applications, a variety of sports betting companies have made the switch to a more user-friendly format for their patrons.
The abundance of games to access – What’s the most appealing feature of the many gaming-capable smartphones? Even on tiny displays, it gives a fantastic gaming experience. In this way, you may choose the sport that best matches your betting style by giving you access to a large range of virtual games, slots, esports, professional sports, and casinos, among other things.
Anytime, anywhere – With the top sports betting apps, you’ll have access to a wide range of betting markets so you can place your bets whenever and wherever you choose. Different forms of bets give more comfortable betting circumstances and with a high-speed internet connection gives optimum bets. The betting platform can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week thanks to smartphones.
Unique bonuses – There is a lengthy history of mobile sports betting. Mobile sports betting applications are used by a number of professional gamblers. Apps that give subscription benefits for downloads and mobile sports betting to make all sports betting stand out and clear up the clutter are almost universal. Furthermore, the app is accessible and user-friendly, allowing a big number of people to download it.

All about Gradient Descent that One Needs to Know in the Context of Machine Learning
In our everyday life, we are optimizing variables all the time based on our personal choices, requirements, and preferences even unconsciously. We use optimization techniques all day, for instance, we choose the shortest route to avoid traffic when going to work, figure out and decide to take a quick walk around the campus during our free time, and schedule cabs in advance to reach on time. Most of the optimizations we do are about saving time because time is very important in today’s world.
Optimization has become an integrated part of our lives and as our lives revolve around technologies, it has also become an integrated part of technological products. Optimization is the ultimate goal present at the heart of all statistical and Machine Learning techniques that are widely used in data science. As a result optimization algorithms have been created; one such algorithm is Gradient Descent in Machine Learning.
What is Gradient Descent?
Gradient Descent is an optimization algorithm that is used for finding the minimum of a function. In terms of Machine Learning, it is used for updating parameters in a model. Based on the algorithms that were used, parameters can be of various types – coefficients (in linear regression) and weights (in neural networks). To understand the concept of Gradient Descent through a real-life example, think of a hypothetical situation in which a person has to descend into a valley blindfolded. Anyone in a situation like this would firstly take careful steps to find a slope. Once they find a downward slope, they’ll follow it and repeat their steps until they’ve completely descended into the valley, in other words, reached the minima.
This is exactly what the Gradient Descent Algorithm does in a machine. The inclination or slope is the cost function and the role of Gradient Descent is to provide direction and velocity (rate of learning) of movement to find a point where the cost is minimum or in other words, the minima of the cost function. A cost function is“a function that maps an event or values of one or more variables onto a real number intuitively representing some ‘cost’ associated with the event.”
The Application of Gradient Descent
The foremost goal of any Machine Learning algorithm is to build a model. A model is a hypothesis, which can be used to find out estimation for Y based on X. For example – Let’s say we have some data about different houses regarding their price, size, material, etc. and we want to predict the cost of a house based on its size. For one house, one may do it by a manual comparative analysis but let’s assume we need to know the cost for many houses. In such cases, we would like to predict a continuous output for a given number of inputs. It’s a regression problem that can be solved by an optimization algorithm of Machine Learning, such as Gradient Descent. Gradient descent can help to find a line of best fit for a given number of inputs (X values) and provide any number of outputs (Y values).
Types of Gradient Descent Algorithms
- Batch Gradient Descent – It is used to process training examples for all the iterations. It can get computationally expensive when there are a lot of training examples. In such cases, other types of Gradient Descents are preferred.
- Stochastic Gradient Descent – The word ‘stochastic’ refers to a ‘random probability’. For a random probability, a random selection is done. Thus, in a Stochastic Gradient Descent, instead of selecting the whole data set, random samples are selected for all the iterations. Since this type of Gradient Descent only uses a single sample to perform all the iterations, it is not computationally expensive. The sample is randomly shuffled and selected from the dataset. The parameters get updated after each repetition; therefore, it’s faster than Batch Gradient Descent.
- Mini Batch Gradient Descent – It is the fastestform ofGradient Descent which can be used even when there is a large number of training examples. It processes the batch at once. It uses very less iterations, regardless of the number of training samples.
Challenges Faced in the Execution of Gradient Descent
Gradient Descent is a very useful optimization algorithm but it is not perfect and has some drawbacks. There are many cases in which gradient descent cannot be used or doesn’t perform well. It happens when one faces different sorts of challenges during the execution of Gradient Descent. There are mainly three types of challenges:
If the data is arranged in a way that causes a non-convex optimization problem then performing Gradient Descent on it becomes troublesome. Gradient Descent only works for data arranged to cause a well-defined convex optimization problem. In a convex optimization problem, there are many minimal points. The lowest point is called the global minimum whereas the rest, are local minima. It is important to reach the global minimum by avoiding local minima. Furthermore, Gradient Descent cannot be used in a saddle point problem as well. In such a problem, the gradient can be zero even for a non-optimal point.
An improper execution while using Gradient Descent can cause several problems such as a vanishing gradient problem. It happens when the size of the gradient is either too large or too small, which leads to no convergence.
